I started this blog when I was restoring a 1917 Kennebec canoe. Now I have added to my boat building adventures, and built a kayak. I also have pages about birds and astronomy.

Canoe Before Restoration

Bow seat with cord where woven cane should be.
This is the stem piece that is steam bent to the curve of the bow or stern. The wide end is a "splayed" stem, which indicates this may have been built with help from the Morris canoe company, as they typically used splayed stems and Kinnebec did not.  I'm told the two companies worked together at times.
If you look closely, you can see the pattern of the cane weaving on the wood.

See the history page for the trail this number led to.
